QuickShade App revisa
Simple & Lightweight but with one flaw
I love the simplicity of this app & how easy it is to use. The only flaw I realized that took me a While to notice was it dims both monitors instead of one. You can’t control which monitor to dim.
Need scheduler
Scheduling this app is essential for late night timez
I use everyday!
Controls my 2nd monitor brightness! Exactly what I needed. I rarely leave reviews.
Works well but could improve with a few tweaks
This app is great for dimming my entire screen at night for when I need to go to sleep. The only suggestions I have is that maybe it could add a setting to make the dimming automatic. For example, you can schedule it to dim for most of the night and return to normal brightness in the morning. Perhaps also a setting to return to a higher brightness from when dimmed or manually adjust brightness back to normal but have it automatically return to dim after some inactivity (this could be customized to only occur at set times). Thank you and I look forward to possible improvements if any are made in the future.
A lot faster than messing with the monitor settings
Works like a charm! Apple should have given us this widget out of the box.
It used to work really well…
…but now it doesn’t work for fullscreen applications anymore for some reason, probably thanks to a MacOS update.
Just what I needed
On iPhone and iPad you can create a short cut to reduce whitepoint. That is exactly the feature I needed on my Macbook Pro. At night if I'm watching a show or movie or even writing I can dim the screen enough to minimize the strrain on my eyes. It works great, lauches seemlessly and has a shortcut. There is a minor bug that when you make something full screen it turns off but within 2 second turns back on. Everything I needed!
Won’t work with monitors anymore
This app was great until it stopped working with monitors on MacBook m1. I hope it can be fixed because it is a great app.
Disables App Store Install Button
When QuickShade is enabled, I do not get the final Install button in the App Store. The second I disable QuickShade, the Install button comes up. Wasted an hour with Apple tech support and even they couldn’t figure it out. I do love the app, and temporarily disabling it to install an app is a small price to pay. Great work, but as it appears, buggy.
Fix Fullscreen
Not working in fullscreen
Good, but big problem
Great app, but does not work with YouTube in fullscreen (which is what I’m doing 90% of the time when I want my screen dimmed)
Only some functions work
Shading bar works fine, but it’s buggy with adding shortcuts. This is an option I need, so unfortunately I need to choose another app.
Please Fix
Does not work in full screen on macOS Sequoia 15.0
Pls fix: M3 Sonoma - Full screen window shade disappears while animation
Pls fix: M3 Sonoma - Full screen window shade disappears while animation When switching screens shade disappears When making expose view - dock is not shaded Pls make it always be on top not comfy to use thx
Free, does the job PERFECTLY
Looking for this exact solution and I'm so happy that the developers of this app have made it available for everybody.
Excellent, with one suggestion
A dynamic menu bar icon that indicates when the shade is enabled/disabled would make this app perfect. Macbook Pro 13", Big Sur.
SO SIMPLE
This is the best app for shielding your eyes from bright screens (mainly used at night). The best part is that it's only a few megabytes of space
Wonderful app but wish it preserved color tone
Absolutely love the app, but wish ir didn't change the color tone. Instead of just decreasing the brightness, it makes things more gray or hazy.
Fanstatic and does just as it states!
I like to nap with my MacBook Pro while streaming something but the standard dimness is too bright but I don't want the screen completely black (crazy I know) and this delivers exactly what I am looking for!
Doesn't work on fullscreen with Chrome
You're better off just downloading a chrome extension
Very useful
Been using this for years. It's FREE. Thank you developer.
Incredible!
I previously used Vivid, which I cannot get to open. So I tried this. Wow! Incredible
Good!
It is very useful for Mac using external monitors. There is also a shortcut to convenient.
I wish I could go darker....
I am blind. Before this application, I fumbled around with toggling color inversion and changing glasses to get a more appropriate tint. This application lets me use my Mac computer without wearing any sunglasses. I no longer need to invert the colors too. TLDR: If you'd like to quickly dial the brightness up or down with a custom keyboard command, get this app.
Strange Bug
When quickshade is enabled at login, it prevents me from checking out with Apple Pay on websites. After quiting, I am abe to pay just fine.
Makes screen hazy/brighter with colors inverted
This seems like a neat little program, but it seems to be just adding a sort of black colored filter over the whole screen, because when I invert colors, it gets grayish white. For work at night in the dark we need our screen to be as dark as possible, so it would be cool if there was an option to change the color of the shade.
Doesn't do the job as well
This app didn't work effectively. It adds a light grey shade over everything; the max setting actually makes brightness worse! Use MonitorControl instead.
Awesome but..
please add the ability to dim the cursor as well. Just make it an option that you can click or not... it would be very helpful! Thank you!
Works Great!
Thanks for this great tool. It really helps when working at night. Especially when some website/apps do not have dark mode support.
BUG
WONT WORK FULLSCREEN CHROME
Doesn't work when using fullscreen
Works well for dimming past OS minimum for brightness, but any time you "fullscreen" youtube or a tv it reverts back to the original OS brightness, which isn't really helpful because that is what I was mainly looking to use it for.
Doesn't work when fullscreen
The most recent bug fix says it was suppsed to fix this problem, but I just downloaded the newest version of the app, and when I fullscreen Google Chrome it goes back to the original unmodified brightness level. This is a major problem since i normally keep everything full-screened.
Doesn't work with apps
I use a White Noise app at night and I like to toggle the clock as I sleep so that if I wake up at some point, I can easily see what time it is. But it seems when I lower the brightness on my native display as low as it will go (prior to going completely black) it's still too bright. I downloaded QuickShade hoping to remedy this, but it made absolutely no difference. My desktop was dimmed, but the clock on White Noise was not, at all. Also, I just noticed that there was apparently a bug at some point that prevented the app from functioning on full screen apps. Perhaps that's the issue. But it certainly has not been resolved.
Must Have for Docked setup! (Samsung Monitor)
I use a Macbook Air which is often docked to my external Samusung curved monitor. I can't really change the brightness through either settings on my laptop or monitor (maybe I just don't know how) But anyways this app is amazing! I'm able to adjust the brightness of both screens! It is perfect for me given that I'm a student that's usually up late and I wear glasses! So definitly reduces headaches and eye issues for me! Thank you developers! Highly Recommend!
Awesome for multiple monitors
Wow its great and lightweight! Leave it just how it is its great and doesnt cause problems and is so awesome for a multi monitor setup!! Feels like a built in system utility that appeared in a osx update.
no
still doesnt work with fullscreen apps
doesn't work with full-screen apps
i mostly work in full-screen and this dones't work
Great but one bug
This is a great program for anyone with a non-Apple monitor! There's one bug that's pretty irritating that I've noticed where the monitor will flash back to full brightness every time you enter fullscreen mode. This happens either when you click the little green button or when you fullscreen a video or something. Other than that annoying little bug, this program is an incredible one!
Working well before, but a bit buggy on Monterey
Much gratitude to the developer. Was using this for a good amount of time, but it has recently become pretty buggy. Not sure if it's because of my version macOS. I'm currently on Monterey 12.5.1 Two main things: (1) cannot take a screenshot properly when shade is enabled and (2) hiding of applications (command h) has become buggy and won't work if QuickShade is awesome. Hopefully this gets fixed because this has been very helpful to lessen strain on my eyes. Can't use it right now though.
One of the few apps I will rate 5
I've been using this app for almost two years now. Thanks for making this.
fullscreen issue
not working in fullscreen videos
Back working on Startup
This is the best choice, and it's free. Just what I need, no frills and extras... diff color's might be nice, but it doesn't what I wanted it to do. Got my shortcuts loaded - everything's perfect. Thanks for the reent update.
doesnt work in full screen
As of recently I haven't been able to use quick shade because for some reason whenever I try to enter full screen for whatever apps like Safari, chrome, 03 applications that I want to put in full screen quick shade will not change the brightness at all. It only works on my MacBooks home screen, where it lowers the summer exposure by adding the bluish tint. I really hate that this has happened and that there is no way to fix it, but unfortunately I don't think I will be using this app anymore as it doesn't work when I need it too.
Stopped Working On Full Screened Browsers
After the latest update, it stopped working on browser windows that were open fully. It USED to work on those, but not anymore. And it never opened up at login, even when the option to do so is selected. Other than that, it's ok. I mean, it's free, so I can't complain too much.
Issue with latest update
I really love QuickShade and find it really helpful as a student, when I use my Mac at night. However, with the 3.0 update, the effects of QuickShade won't work when I have an application in full-screen. If I turn the brightness down with QuickShade, my desktop's brightness will go down, but when I open an app, the brightness in the app does not go down. Hopefully this can be fixed soon!
Good lord thank you
I don't know what thought process led to my 2020 Macbook Pro's screen brightness jumping from 'dim-ish' to 'pitch black' at the lower end of the built-in brightness slider, but it is unfortunately unelegant. Perhaps the same process came up with the keyboard backlight dimmer, which also jumps from 'too bright for use in a dark room' to 'off'. Well, this app fixes the screen brightness issue, allowing me to use my Macbook at night while my partner sleeps undisturbed. This occurs during travel, especially, and while she wears an eye-mask and swears she sees no light from my screen, I have long felt awful when this situation arises. No more - QuickShade 100% fixed the situation. I'm writing this review in gratitude to the developeer, Katsuma Tanaka, as I did not see a way to send money. Thank you, Katsuma! If anyone reading this can code - I believe there is a unmet demand for a QuickShade-like app for the keyboard backlight. I would purchase it immediately as I have been unable to find anything that addresses the issue.
Wow!! No longer blinded by White backgrounds
My cheesy 75" TV has very little brigtness controls and I turned on Night Lite on Mac Mini M1 and this helped a little bit. QuckShade Thank You so much this is great. I knew there had to be others out there like me, frying our eyes out. Being free = Try it out.
Controls brightness on BOTH displays!
Thank you! This adjusts the brighness on BOTH displays with quick access in the toolbar. Siimple and effective. -- I just setup (2) 27" thunderbolt displays on a Mac Pro 2013 w/ Monterey. The brignness in System Preferences | Displays is cumbersome to get to, and the brightness control in the applet or keyboard only adjust the current display. This does both quicly and easily.
Add shortcut
I use a Mac mini and a logitech keyboard for mac. There are brightness /- keys on the keyboard, but they don't change the brightness of my display. (I'm pretty sure Mac minis don't do this natively.) I was able to add these buttons as shortcuts to run QuickShade's Brightness up/down controls via QuickShade's preferences menu. It works extremely well. Very handy! NOTE: I had to turn off the MacOS keyboard shortcut before this would work. The MacOS keyboard shortcut can be found in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Display > uncheck "Decrease display brightness" and "Increase display brightness." Also, the on screen brightness GUI display isn't utilized by this app. Which is okay, but worth mentioning. Also, the mouse's cursor doesn't dim with the rest of the screen. Some may find this annoying. I however, like that it makes it easier to find the cursor on a crowded screen.
